We express great sorrow at demise of Prof. S N Samad Choudhury; founder Chairman of Liver Foundation of Bangladesh, who passed away on May 18, 2014 (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un).
He was born in a reputed family at Sylhet on March 25, 1937. He was a great teacher and organizer of different organizations. He was former dean faculty of medicine, University of Dhaka. He was actively engaged in the development and establishment of Anesthesiology in Bangladesh. He was regarded as “Father of Anesthesiology in Bangladesh”.Former president of Bangladesh Society Anesthesiologists & SAARC Association of Anesthesiologists. He was also founder member of the Asian & Oceanic Society of Regional Anesthesia (AOSRA).
Prof Samad was also involved with Bangladesh Cancer society, Bangladesh College of physician & surgeons and other academic and philanthropic organizations. He was very kind hearted and always had the attitude of helping people for humanitarian cause.
Secretary General of liver Foundation, Prof. Mohammad Ali acknowledge that, after his return from abroad, when he decided to form the Liver Foundation of Bangladesh, he first discussed the idea of starting the foundation with Prof. S N Samad Choudhury . He accepted the concept whole heartedly and joined the Liver Foundation as Founder Chairman of the organization since April, 1999.
He was actively involved in all the activities of the foundation. His active participation made the advancement of the foundation, which created good reputation of the foundation in national and international arena.
Government of Bangladesh also came forward to stand by the foundation and donated land at Sylhet for making the liver Foundation Hospital. He chaired the inauguration ceremony and participated at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Liver Foundation hospital at Sylhet along with the finance minister and Minister of Social welfare on December 27, 2009.
This was his last physical appearance in liver foundation’s program. The foundation expresses deep shock at his demise and will remember his relentless contribution with great respect and honor.
With his death nation lost one of his great son. May Allah Bless him in peace.
